"FFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU~~~!!!"
- Me playing BIT.TRIP BEAT

Video games are awesome. In fact, video games are something I'd rather be doing than 90% of the other stuff that I do during the day. It's like drugs, but worse. However, the more I play them, the more I realize something horrible: most games nowadays, or at least all the popular ones, are all pretty much exactly the same. The bread-and-butter of the current gaming industry (e.g. "I'MA RUN OVER HERE AND SHOOT THESE GUYS, WAIT FOR A CUTSCENE, THEN REPEAT") just doesn't appeal to me at all. Sure, first-person shooters can be fun, but there are so many more options out there. If you have a rainbow, why would you want to taste only one color? Because of this, I have a more open mind. I tend to give games a chance that many people would be afraid of.

On a related note, Steam is also awesome (my Steam profile is here). Since mother doesn't really like when I buy games, I try to make every purchase worth the money. In general, I have a couple standards of a game before I buy it:

1. The game doesn't suck.

2. The game is cheap/on sale (THIS IS HOW STEAM STEALS ALL YOUR MONEY).

3. The game tries something different.

Generally, this type of game I figure will hold my attention, and I'll look into getting it after reading more on it. Although the sheer amount of games I've bought on Steam seems to suggest the opposite, I am cost-effective with my games. I think about it this way: Would I rather play $60 for a mainstream FPS (Like Call of Duty or something similar) or pay $10 - $15 to buy a game or two from an independent developer who has nothing to lose from trying something new?

...Just please don't ask me to play horror games.

  • Bought an unhealthy amount of games from Steam.
  • Always end up playing the Medic class or equivalent in about every game that offers it. Hey, I like helping people!
